Windows 11 Update Bids Goodbye to WordPad
WordPad has been a quick alternative to the Windows Docs and has been used for text-based functions.
Microsoft has officially removed WordPad with the Windows 11 24H2 update. It has also been confirmed that WordPad will be deleted from the Windows Server 2025.
WordPad, a special program which is simply basic word processor included in Windows since 1995, will cease to be available in any Windows editions.
Alternatively, Microsoft recommends users to use Microsoft Word for rich text documents (.doc and .rtf) and Notepad for plain text files (.txt).

While Notepad has received consistent updates like spell-check and auto correct, it still lacks the fully fledged features present in WordPad.
WordPad, for a long time, has been a default feature in Windows for decades. It has been providing users with a simple word-processing tool without needing Microsoft Word functionalities.
However, Word has always offered more advanced writing features, and Microsoft is pushing users to adopt it over time in place of WordPad.
Access to and usage of Microsoft Word requires either a Microsoft 365 subscription, costing $69.99 per year, or a one-time purchase of Office 2024 program that comes with all the software.
This deprecation in the subscription price follows other recent decisions by Microsoft to phase out long-standing features and applications.
For instance, Cortana was removed from Windows in late 2023, although it remains available in some Microsoft services like Outlook mobile and Microsoft Teams.
Similarly, paint 3D, another Windows mainstay, is also being removed from the Windows Store.
These moves are part of a broader effort by Microsoft to streamline its software offerings, focusing on tools with broader user bases or paid subscription models.
Despite the removal of WordPad, Microsoft has not announced any direct replacement, encouraging users to switch to other applications like Word or Notepad instead.
WordPad's removal marks the end of an era for one of Windows' simplest and most accessible tools.
